Space Suit Phobia (SSP) is Knotts the Nomad’s debut EP, which just dropped August 7. I just listened to it twice to give you all you need to know about it and decide whether to give it a listen!
The album, a 12-minute journey of 4 songs, tackles the most prominent issues of today.
- Space Suit Phobia
Knotts the Nomad raps over a mellow beat in an ode to George Floyd and the many Black people whose last words were “I can’t breathe.” You can not only hear but feel the pain in the lyrics. “I don’t feel safe in this space suit,” as I took it, could possibly be a metaphor for the skin we’re living in.
2. Melanated Bronze
The beat on this track is something you could dance to, but the lyrics are worth really listening to. combined, they are a musical representation of the ongoing protests and a call to uplift Black lives.
3. R.I.P./ Revolution in Progress
R.I.P. takes more of a turn, tackling most of the issues at the forefront of this year. From masks, to stimulus checks to shooting unarmed Black people, this track covers it all. Another hot beat with hot lyrics
4. P.O.C/ Pheromones of Clones
“Complexion has a heavy hue.” That line really hit me, it highlights the bitter reality of that statement now more than ever. There’s also a feature from Cj TopOff halfway through. This one’s message is about observing and seeing beyond the surface level of our society and has more of a neo-soul vibe to it, which is a nice conclusion to the album.
Overall, this was a solid EP for Knotts the Nomad’s first release. His sound might not be for everyone, and there are some moments where it’s hard to understand what’s being said, but those moments are few. Other than that, I’d suggest a listen. This is a Dallas artist you just might add to your playlist!
